No adoption event today - our next event will be Saturday, September 7, 2013 at NYC Pet on Driggs Avenue in Brooklyn. This weekend we’re celebrating Labor Day with the story of Harmony, a true labor of love!
We first met Harmony and her mother Shania (now known as Shya) on a trip to Alabama last March. They’d landed in an overcrowded shelter together and our directors fell in love. They became Badasses instantly but both had a long road to forever home. Harmony got held up because she had a horrible case of luxating patella caused by an old fracture that didn’t heal properly. It came with incredible pain, muscle atrophy, and it would ultimately mean she’d lose use of the leg all together. True to form, the BADASS Badass community rallied around Harmony and helped us raise the money for the surgery to reconstruct her knee and her initial rehab in record time. Folks have continued to check in on her and watch her progress this summer at Eva’s Play Pups in PA as she started swimming and began to walk again. There was one woman in particular who’s followed Harmony all along. One of our amazing volunteers, who already had one Badass in the family, fell in love with Harmony over the internet a few months back. Harmony’s serene beauty and the angelic personality everyone described touched her heart. But her future forever mom was living in an apartment that couldn’t accommodate Harmony and her rehab needs. She initially resigned to watch with interest. Fate wasn’t having that. She found a new dog- and, more specifically, Harmony-friendly place and committed to working out the details to bring Harmony forever home. These two ladies finally had their moment on Friday afternoon, and we have to say that it was one of the sweetest we can remember. Harmony’s gone to an absolutely wonderful home, where she’s going by the name Bama and will be surrounded by friends and love for the rest of her days. That is all we ever wanted. THANK YOU to everyone who played a part in this much-deserved Happy Beginning. We truly couldn’t have done it without you. And in one of Eva’s (Badass director, caretaker of Harmony and champion of dogs) favorite expressions: YAAAHOOOOOOOOOO!
